Recipe: The Aperol Spritz
The Aperol Spritz was created in the 1950s in Padua, Italy, by the Barbieri brothers. Originally known as the “Spritz Veneziano,” it was inspired by the Austrian tradition of diluting white wine with water. The classic recipe consists of three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol, and a splash of soda water. The Aperol Spritz’s distinctive color, with its vivid orange tones, comes from Aperol, an aperitif made from bitter orange, gentian, herbs, and rhubarb. This cocktail has grown increasingly popular in cocktail bars and on terraces, becoming a symbol of laid-back Italian summers.
