Originally designed to pair with tequila blanco and white rums, it also works beautifully with gin whenever you want a grapefruit/hop backbone with more character than a simple zest.
In service, use it as a bitterness-and-freshness “booster”: a few dashes are enough to lift a Daiquiri, a Gimlet, a gin highball, or a tequila/mezcal base, especially if your recipe is already on the sweeter side (liqueur, syrup, cordial). The goal is to keep the cocktail crisp while adding aromatic depth.
